Beispiele von typischen Reservations-Scams
Bei dieser Betrugsart werden Hotelreservationen getätigt und kurze Zeit später storniert. Die oft zu hohe Vorauszahlung soll dann statt auf die ursprüngliche (gestohlene) Kreditkarte via Western Union/Wire Transfer o.ä an eine Drittperson zurückerstattet werden. Das Hotel wird somit unwissentlich zum Geldwäscher.
Erkennungsmerkmale
- Die Buchung kommt aus dem Ausland und verlangt eine Antwort an eine Freemail-Adresse (yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc.).
- Der Buchungstext enthält viele Grammatikfehler und ist sehr allgemein gehalten, das Hotel wird in der Buchung nicht direkt namentlich genannt („Your hotel“, „in your City“, etc.).
- Die Buchung ist oft kurzfristig, für viele Personen und/oder für eine unüblich grosse Anzahl Nächte. Der Gast ist trotzdem sehr flexibel und nimmt hohe Preise oder andere Datumsvorschläge gerne in Kauf.
- In der folgenden Kommunikation interessiert sich der Gast nicht für die Umgebung, Attraktionen, etc.
- Es werden hauptsächlich Zahlungsmodalitäten besprochen.
- Es soll mehr Geld einbezahlt werden, als für die Hotelbuchung nötig ist. Das überschüssige Geld soll später angeblich an Dritte (Reiseverantstalter, Autovermieter o.ä.) ausbezahlt werden.
